Unsurprisingly, Celtics all-time roster in NBA 2K18 is unstoppable
The rosters for NBA 2K18’s all-time teams were released this week, and unsurprisingly, the Celtics are unstoppable.
The C’s starting lineup consists of Bob Cousy, John Havliceck, Paul Pierce, Larry Bird and Bill Russell. The pairing of Russell and Bird, of course, is the biggest takeaway. Both legends have 98 ratings, respectively.
It’s appropriate Pierce finds himself in the starting lineup, too, especially considering the Celtics will retire his No. 34 jersey this season. While he isn’t the greatest player in franchise history, for a generation of Celtics fans who missed out on Russell and Bird, he embodies what the organization is all about.
The Celtics’ bench is one of the deepest in the game, which isn’t surprising, considering the organization’s illustrious history. The reserve players are Kevin McHale, Dave Cowens, Robert Parrish, Sam Jones, Kevin Garnett, Isaiah Thomas, Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen.
There seems to be some recency bias, with Jo-Jo White, Dennis Johnson, Nate Archibald, Bill Sharman, Cedric Maxwell and K.C. Jones getting left off the roster in exchange for the inclusion of more contemporary stars.
Allen’s inclusion is probably the most controversial, given his acrimonious departure from the organization five years ago. He appears to still carry some hard feelings, too. In an Instagram post Thursday, the shooting guard says Celtics fans should be “pissed off” at the team for trading Isaiah Thomas.
