Vegas says the Warriors are still the team to beat in the NBA. But the Celtics and Lakers are on their heels.
According to OddsShark, the Celtics and Lakers are tied in second place for Finals odds at +350. That, of course, is because LeBron James signed with the Lakers Sunday. Los Angeles’ odds were at +2000 before it inked James to a four-year, $154 million contract on the first day of free agency.
It’s apparent Vegas expects the Lakers to acquire at least one more superstar to play with LeBron. Right now, the Lakers are probably the prohibitive favorite in the Kawhi Leonard sweepstakes, considering they already have James. On Sunday, the Lakers also signed center Javale McGee and swingman Lance Stephenson. No word on whether Stephenson will blow into LeBron’s ear.
Even with James and Leonard, the Lakers probably still wouldn’t be favored against the Warriors. The Celtics, meanwhile are the clear favorites in the Eastern Conference, now that LeBron will tipping off at 10:30 p.m. EST.
But even without any other moves, the Lakers have been revived. They will make the playoffs for the first time since 2013. The rivalry is back.
