Pelicans Dell Demps firing complicates Anthony Davis trade for Celtics

Pelicans Dell Demps firing complicates Anthony Davis trade for Celtics

The Celtics’ efforts to land Anthony Davis this summer may have gotten a little more complicated. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Pelicans fired general manager Dell Demps Friday. The organization reportedly wants a new person to oversee the Davis situation, which is the most critical decision in franchise history. Owner Gayle Benson, who also owns the Saints, is peeved over Davis’ trade demand, Wojnarowski reports.  “Her mandate has been to ‘take back control from outside forces, a league source…

Kyrie Irving injury: Celtics playing well without Irving doesn't mean they're better without him

Kyrie Irving injury: Celtics playing well without Irving doesn't mean they're better without him

It’s understandable why some Celtics fans want to spew venom towards Kyrie Irving. The dazzling point guard appeared to publicly retract his preseason promise of re-signing here, telling reporters earlier this month he doesn’t owe “anybody bleep” months before his pending free agency.  On top of that, the Irving-to-New York rumors may have been part of some larger Rich Paul-orchestrated conspiracy to force Anthony Davis to the Lakers, the Sporting News reports.  It’s frustrating to watch unfold, and makes it…

Celtics reportedly accuse Rich Paul of planting story about Kyrie Irving’s future

Celtics reportedly accuse Rich Paul of planting story about Kyrie Irving’s future

The NBA trade deadline has come and gone but the drama that resulted is still unfolding. Anthony Davis was the center of said drama, along with his agent, Rich Paul, who tried unsuccessfully to force a Davis trade from New Orleans to Los Angeles to join LeBron James, another of his clients. When the Celtics reportedly made it clear they wanted the Pelicans to wait until the summer to trade Davis, Paul got creative. And now the Celtics are reportedly accusing…

Al Horford has stepped up for Celtics at just the right time

Al Horford has stepped up for Celtics at just the right time

When Celtics forward Marcus Morris labeled his team a group of individuals instead of a team, it lit a fire under his teammates. According to Morris, the feedback was positive. Most of the Celtics agreed with the harsh criticism and ever since last Saturday night — when Boston dropped its worst loss of the season against the Clippers after blowing a 28-point lead — it’s been the veterans big man Al Horford that has stepped up in absence of Kyrie…

Joel Embiid after loss: 'The referees (expletive) suck'

Joel Embiid after loss: 'The referees (expletive) suck'

Joel Embiid had a decent game Tuesday night, finishing with 23 points and 14 rebounds in his Sixers’ 112-109 loss to the Celtics. (For more on the C’s win, click here.) But with just two seconds left Embiid chose to put back a Tobias Harris 3-pointer instead of kicking the ball out. The decision left Philadelphia still down a point, allowing for the C’s to seal the deal with two Jayson Tatum free throws. While the center took plenty of…

Photos: Scenes from key wins for Celtics, Bruins

Tuesday offered a good night for Boston sports fans. Both the Bruins and Celtics were in action, with the local hockey team taking on the Blackhawks at TD Garden and the C’s heading to Philly to meet up with the Sixers. Two games, two wins. For the B’s, the victory over Chicago offered a solid message considering Bruce Cassidy’s team’s rash of injuries. (To read more about the job Cassidy has done, click here for Matt Kalman’s column.) The win puts…

There might be hope for these Celtics, after all

There might be hope for these Celtics, after all

Let’s get this out of the way: The Celtics still need Kyrie Irving. Yes, the image of Brad Stevens’ team beating the super-talented Sixers without Irving offered the reminder of what once was with the Celtics. This 112-109 win in Philadelphia sure seemed more like that gritty, gutty C’s team from a season ago rather than the embattled group which had uncomfortably taken over the post-Super Bowl conversation. (For a complete recap, click here.) But the Eastern Conference is better…

Four takeaways from the Kyrie Irving-less Celtics, following Tuesday's win against Sixers

Marcus Morris explains why he called out his team after latest Celtics loss

The loss was one thing, the comments from Marcus Morris after was another. Morris’ declaration following the Celtics’ defeat at the hands of the Clippers Saturday night helped punctuate what appears to be a dysfunctional C’s roster. <a href=”http:// Brad Stevens said he got asked about when he lets go of tough losses like the two LA games. “When I die they’ll be gone. Those piss you off. And if it doesn’t, then you’re not in a good place. That’s…

Chris Mannix on D&K: Celtics are a 'discombobulated bunch'

The Celtics are in a greater state of chaos than perhaps at any time during Brad Stevens’ tenure as head coach. That was punctuated Saturday night with Marcus Morris’ postgame comments. So, what exactly is going on within the roster of this team? Chris Mannix joined the Dale & Keefe Show to try to offer some clarity, starting with the heat that is suddenly on Stevens to fix things. “Up until this point he has taken a place among the…
