When the Celtics traded Matisse Thybulle, the 20th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, to the 76ers, Boston acquired both the 24th pick and the 33rd pick in this year’s draft. The Celtics then traded the 24th pick, Ty Jerome, and Aron Baynes to the Phoenix Suns.
But the Celtics elected to keep the 33rd pick, taking Purdue point guard Carsen Edwards.
After shooting 40.6 percent from three and 45.8 percent from the floor in 2017-18, Edwards took a step back in 2018-19, shooting 35.5 percent from deep and 39.4 percent all-around — despite averaging a career-high 24.3 points per game. He also averaged a steal a game or more in each season with the Boilermakers. The 6-foot-1 guard has a wingspan of 6-foot-6 and gets after it on defense.
