The NBA draft is Thurdsay night, which means Celtics rumors are kicking into overdrive. The latest: multiple outlets are reporting the C’s would like to trade up into the top four.
According to ESPN, the Celtics are among a handful of teams engaged with the Grizzlies about acquiring the fourth overall pick. One problem — Memphis wants any team acquiring the pick to also assume the two years and $49.2 million remaining on the contract of oft-injured forward Chandler Parsons.
Others in the mix include the Mavericks, Magic, Bulls, Knicks, and Nuggets, per the report, with Memphis preferring to remain in the lottery after the trade. The Celtics, picking 27th, couldn’t make that happen without swinging another deal first.
Meanwhile, Kevin O’Connor at the Ringer reports the Celtics are also lurking around the No. 3 pick, owned by the Hawks, with the Bulls, Knicks, Magic, Clippers and Mavs also interested. According to O’Connor, teams are hoping to move into the third spot to acquire either Slovenian wing Luka Doncic or Texas center Mo Bamba, two players who have been linked to the Celtics.
