Report: ‘Overflowing backcourt’ factored into Celtics trading No. 1 pick
The decision by Danny Ainge to trade the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft to the 76ers for the No. 3 overall pick and a future first-rounder was one that stunned many fans, as it appeared the Celtics were poised to select guard Markelle Fultz No. 1 overall.
But, a few days after the report of the trade came out, we now have an idea of why the Celtics made the deal to pass on Fultz.
With a backcourt currently consisting of All-NBA second team member Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley, Marcus Smart, and Terry Rozier, it appears Ainge believes the current roster has more than enough guard depth.
Now, it appears the Celtics will either be selecting Duke forward Jayson Tatum or Kansas forward Josh Jackson at No. 3 overall.
