It looks increasingly inevitable that the Celtics will select guard Markelle Fultz from Washington with the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft later this month.
“I want to be the No. 1 pick really bad,” he said. “It’s been a dream of mine since I was a little kid and I feel like I would fit well in Boston.”
Fultz, who averaged 23.2 points per contest as a freshman at Washington, is the consensus No. 1 pick heading into the draft –– especially given Lonzo Ball’s apparent desire to play for the Lakers. Danny Ainge said last month the UCLA standout refuses to work out for the Celtics. LaVar Ball, hasn’t been shy about his desire to see his boy play for the hometown squad.
If Fultz comes to Boston, he’ll likely play alongside Isaiah Thomas, another University of Washington product. Fultz told ESPN last week he would have no problem with that.
“We can both play on or off the ball,” he said. “We can both score and also pass. I think we’d be great together.”
