After a thrilling series in the Eastern Conference semifinals, the Celtics and Sixers will battle in the spotlight on Christmas Day, this according to Mark Stein of The New York Times.
The Celtics and Sixers both feature rosters brimming with talent and young stars. Without Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward, the Celtics grinded their way to an emotional thumping of the team’s new rivals in the second round. If both team’s are healthy, they represent two of the league’s top squads sure to put on a show. This isn’t the sole meeting that the league wants to highlight, as Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe reported that the teams could lead TNT’s opening night.
The Celtics have played on Christmas Day each of the past two years, their first since the 2012-13 campaign. The team lost to the Wizards 111-103 on Christmas Day this past year and defeated the Knicks 119-114 in 2016-17.
The Sixers also competed on Christmas last year, downing the Knicks 105-98.
