It does not appear promising that Kyrie Irving will return to the Celtics next season.
According to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, there’s a 95 percent chance Irving and Kevin Durant sign with the Knicks this offseason. Both players have player options and can opt out of their deals, thus becoming free agents. Smith adds the only hiccup is Durant changing his mind.
The Knicks have a ton of cap space, so the ability is there for them to sign both superstars.
Irving and the Celtics were eliminated from the playoffs by the Bucks this week, while the Warriors are in the Western Conference Finals, but Durant suffered a strained calf in Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Rockets. It is unknown when he will be able to return.
It will be an interesting offseason not only for the Celtics, but the entire NBA.
