Morris was set to sign a two-year, $21 million deal in San Antonio. According to Charania, Morris said he “had to make this decision based on the best situation for me and my family. This is no knock on the Spurs. I have respect for them.” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Spurs had pulled their contract offer shortly before news of Morris’ commitment to the Knicks broke.
Morris put up averages of 13.9 points and 6.1 rebounds for the Celtics in 2018-19. The new contract is a near-tripling of his salary, having earned just under $5.4 million in his last season with the Celtics.
