Marcus Smart might be back sooner than we think.
The Celtics guard, who had hoped to return for Thursday’s Game 6 vs. the Bucks, was instead upgraded to questionable for Tuesday’s Game 5 after receiving a clean bill of health from his surgeon on Monday, according to the Boston Herald.
Smart has been sidelined since injuring his thumb on March 11 against the Pacers and then undergoing surgery. The original plan had been to have him return by a possible Game 7, but Smart pushed to accelerate that timetable, and now there’s a possibility he takes the floor on Tuesday.
“The surgery did its job,” Smart told reporters in Milwaukee before a 104-102 loss in Game 4. “Thumb is holding up well. I feel ready, I feel strong enough to get back out there. I’m just waiting on the OK.”
The Celtics and Bucks are tied 2-2 in their first-round series.
