This is not good news for the Celtics.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Marcus Smart suffered a torn oblique on his left side and could be sidelined for the first two rounds of the playoffs. The Celtics guard suffered the injury in Sunday’s game against the Magic.
The 24-year-old has averaged 8.9 points, 4.0 assists and 1.8 steals in 27.5 minutes per game while starting a career-high 69 games this year.
This is obviously a huge loss for the Celtics as on top of what he can do on offense, he’s arguably their best defender.
The Celtics will take on the Pacers in the first round of the playoffs, which will likely begin on Sunday.
