The NBA has fined Marcus Smart and J.R. Smith for their scuffle in Saturday’s preseason finale between the Celtics and Cavs.
The league issued a $25,000 fine to Smart while Smith will have to pay the NBA $15,000 for shoving Celtics big man Aron Baynes — which led to Smart pushing Smith from behind. Neither will be suspended.
Smart gestured for Smith to meet him in the back — where he was willing to work out their differences and then doubled down on his challenge after the game.
“All that on the court, we can handle that off the court,” Smart said. “I ain’t with that. And that’s on my mamma, may she rest in peace. Ain’t no punk right here. On my momma, may she rest in peace. That (expletive) dead. Whatever happens, happens. J.R. knows where I’m at. Everybody knows where I’m at. It is what it is.”
