Let's start dreaming: Kyrie Irving has reportedly spoken with Anthony Davis about playing in Boston

It’s time to start stoking up the Anthony Davis-to-Boston chatter again. With Kyrie Irving verbally committing to the Celtics, anything is possible.

The Celtics have been linked to Davis over the last couple of years, given their plethora of draft capital. But to this point, Davis has stayed in New Orleans, where he’s signed through 2021. Last season, The Brow reaffirmed his place as one of the game’s greats, averaging 28.1 points and 11.1 rebounds per game, while leading the league in blocks, en route to his third All-NBA first team selection.

Though the Pelicans will almost certainly offer Davis a monstrous extension in the near future, they would likely seriously consider trade proposals if he turns them down. The Celtics are obvious suitors, and could dangle some combination of Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, Terry Rozier, 2018 first-round pick Robert Williams and other future draft choices. And according to the Athletic’s Jay King, Davis is already receiving a recruiting push.

Irving, who played with Davis as a member of Team USA, has spoken with the bonafide All-Star about playing together in Boston, a league source tells King. Irving announced to season ticket holders at the T.D. Garden Thursday he intends to re-sign with the Celtics when he reaches free agency next summer.

Just imagine how dominant the Celtics would be trotting out a starting lineup that features Irving, Gordon Hayward, Jayson Tatum and Davis. That group could possibly make a run at the Warriors’ record 73 wins. And ironically, with the Warriors probably nearing the end of their dynastic window –– Steph Curry and Kevin Durant are in their 30s –– the Celtics are in position to take the mantle from Golden State as the NBA’s next dominant team.

It makes perfect sense, at least in our dreams.
