Kyrie Irving rumors: Are Celtics being put in guard's rearview mirror?

With Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving caught in the midst of NBA free agency rumors, the drama regarding whether or not he will stay in Boston continues to build.

So where will Irving, who becomes a free agent on July 1, decide to go? According to FS1 NBA analyst Ric Bucher on FS1’s “The Herd,” Irving has narrowed it down to two frontrunners: the Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Just yesterday, Irving was spotted by WEEI producer John Anderson at the 2019 Governors Ball Music Festival in New York. When Anderson shouted that Irving should re-sign with Boston, the crowd cheered. Yet, Irving remained silent.

Additionally, former ESPN and current Stadium basketball analyst Jeff Goodman spoke of Irving’s probable departure on Colin Cowherd’s podcast.

“I’d be surprised if he stays in Boston,” Goodman said. “You see his body language. You hear enough smoke, you know there’s something going on here. Obviously, Kyrie’s kinda moody, he’s got a tight inner circle. So, I’m not sure how much validity some of (the rumors have), but again, I don’t expect him to be in Boston. You could see it in the locker room and with his teammates, that they almost don’t know how to take to Kyrie Irving.

“I’ve known him a long time, Colin, and, honestly, he’s become tough to like. He has. Obviously, he’s an elite level talent. But we saw it in the playoffs. He kinda got swallowed up because he’s not the most athletic dude in the world. And this group was far more entertaining to watch a year ago in the playoffs with Jason Tatum, and Jaylen Brown, and Terry Rozier. I’m not sure how many people in Boston, including Danny Ainge, would be unhappy if Kyrie Irving leaves.”

Goodman isn’t the only one with this line of thought. Basketball Insiders’ Steve Kyler posted a series of tweets explaining that his sources point to Irving likely leaving Boston as well.

After a year in which the Celtics underperformed, it seems it is not a matter of “if” but rather, a matter of “when.” In the meantime, Irving’s enigmatic personality is keeping everyone on their toes.

His latest Instagram post didn’t appear to be much of an indication of his next move. In fact, most aren’t even sure what its caption means in general. It reads:

“Hermetic Friends, Inc.

“My light Brothers and Sisters! The age of No More Secrets is upon us. World Peace will be achieved in our life time and we better Effin believe it! Let them have the fabricated bull****. That genuine love and energy spreads all over the world. Eye see all.

I AM”
