Kyrie Irving has no regrets after NSFW response to fan, but fined $25,000

It’s been an interesting first week for Kyrie Irving.

First, his return to Cleveland included a season-ending injury to his Celtics sidekick, Gordon Hayward, a loss to his old team, and a game-ending hug with offseason nemesis LeBron James. Then came Game 2, when Irving couldn’t duplicate Isaiah Thomas’ fourth quarter heroics, leading to a second straight loss. Finally, the point guard and his new team got on the board with a win, Friday, beating the Sixers thanks in large part to Irving’s end-of-game production.

Then there was the video.

Upon leaving the court at halftime in Philly, a fan yelled down to Irving to ask where LeBron was at. Well, here was his response …

When asked about the incident by reporters Saturday, Irving wasn’t backing down.

“Hell no,” Irving said when asked if he had any rergrets. “(The fan was) man enough to record it on video, then that’s all him. I’m glad he got his (social media) name out there and then, kinda, 5 seconds of fame and it going viral — that’s the social media platform we live on. I take full responsibility what I said and excuse (to) the kids at home and you move on.”

He added, “At the end of the day, we’re human. It’s in the heat of the moment and frustrations arise, we were at halftime, we were down by 4, in an environment, a season-opener in Philly.”

So far, there has been no word from the NBA regarding any possible fines sent Irving’s way.

“It’s up to the league at this point,” Irving told reporters when asked about possible punishment. “But, like I said, I’m going to take full responsibility for what I said. I don’t have any regrets for it.”

[UPDATE 2:30 p.m.>: The NBA has announced Irving has been fined $25,000.
