The start of Kyrie Irving’s Celtics career could not be going any better. He’s posting some of the best numbers of his career and the Celtics are two losses out of first place in the Eastern Conference. In a short amount of time, Irving has already appeared to capture Boston’s imagination, with Celtics ratings up 82 percent from last year.
Irving has also ingratiated himself with one of the franchise’s all-time greats. Legendary point guard Bob Cousy showered Irving with praise recently, telling the Worcester Telegram’s Bill Doyle that Irving is the “best in the NBA” at taking the ball to the hoop. On Monday, following the Celtics’ 109-98 win over the Grizzlies, Irving shared his appreciation.
“Very appreciative, very appreciative,” he told reporters after scoring 25 points in the win, per MassLive. “”Knowing what Mr. Cousy gave to the game, to the Celtics tradition, it’s pretty awesome.”
The Celtics, who were slumping before the All-Star Break, have won three straight games. Irving is averaging 24.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists per contest during the streak.
