Kid asks Brad Stevens why Celtics traded Isaiah Thomas
Leave it to a child to grill the Celtics as to why Isaiah Thomas was traded.
Speaking at the Basketball Hall of Fame on Friday, Celtics coach Brad Stevens was asked why “he” traded Thomas to the Cavaliers in exchange for Kyrie Irving.

“That’s an excellent question,” Stevens told the child. “Here’s what I’ll tell you is that what he did in Boston the last two and a half years has been incredible. I said earlier what he’s meant to me, what I think of him; How great he’s been in the locker room, what kind of teammate he’s been. Those are all really, really, really hard decisions.”
The on- and off-court leader of the Celtics, Thomas put forth one of the most productive seasons by any Celtics player in franchise history this past season, averaging 28.9 points per game (the third-best mark in the NBA), earning a trip to the NBA All-Star Game for the second straight season, and finishing fifth in the voting for the NBA MVP.
“That’s the hard part about being a professional basketball coach. I’ve stared at the wall many times and thought, ‘Man, having guys in college for four years and knowing when they’re coming in going is a pretty good way of doing things,’” Stevens continued.
“That’s a tough one.”
