Kendrick Perkins: Celtics don't need to add a big man

The Celtics further solidified themselves as one of the best teams in the NBA with their performance against the Clippers on Wednesday. Although they didn’t win, they were the first team to take on both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George at the same time — and Boston didn’t back down.

The game in Los Angeles gave the Celtics a greater idea of their strengths and weaknesses, but one drawback they’ve known about for a while is their depth at the center position. With Al Horford and Aron Baynes gone, Boston doesn’t have the same presence on the interior.

Though, they’ve found ways to make up for their lack of size. So much so that RADIO.COM NBA Insider and former Celtics center Kendrick Perkins doesn’t feel the Celtics need to add a big.

“Well, they don’t need (another big),” Perkins said on Dale & Keefe on Thursday. “I’m watching this team last night — I’m already sold on the Celtics. Watching them last night, you won’t find a team like the Celtics that, they’re young, but they’re not afraid of embarrassment. And when I say ‘afraid of embarrassment,’ I’m talking about (the fact) they’re not afraid to be on Sportcenter’s Top 10 or get crossed over. These guys are in you. They are contesting things at the rim, they (are) laying their bodies on the line. The ball is moving from side-to-side. You got Brad Stevens who is coaching with extreme passion and it’s trickling down.

“I think it’s going to be scary. You look at these guys, they are relentless. That’s the thing about Danny Ainge. Before he scouts talent, he makes sure these guys have heart. And you look down the Celtics roster and you can’t name one guy on that roster that (doesn’t) have heart and is not going to lay it on the line, starting from the coaching staff.”
