Kelly Olynyk reportedly is now an unrestricted free agent
After Gordon Hayward announced he’s joining the Celtics, it looks like one member of the team last year will not be returning.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Celtics have renounced restricted free agent Kelly Olynyk, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent. He later added multiple teams have been gauging his price point. It does not appear the forward will return to the team next year.
The Celtics likely needed to get Olynyk off the books in order to sign Hayward. Olynyk was traded to the Celtics from the Mavericks on draft night in 2013 and he’s averaged 9.5 points per game over his four years with the team. This past season he averaged nine points and 4.8 rebounds per game, but Celtics fans will remember him most for his playoff career-high 26 points in the Game 7 win over the Wizards.
Olynyk will likely cash in this offseason partly because of that game.
