Jayson Tatum has 5th-best odds of winning NBA Rookie of the Year
Following the 2017 NBA draft, Vegas has released their odds for who will be crowned 2018 Rookie of the Year.
The favorite for this years honors, surprisingly, is not the first overall pick. It is instead Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball, with 5/2 odds.
The second and third spots are held by the future of Philadelphia, Ben Simmons (3/1) and Markelle Fultz (5/1). Simmons, missing his rookie season in 2016-17 as a result of a foot injury, will remain eligible for the award in his second year in the league. In the fourth spot is Sacramento guard De’Aaron Fox (7/1 odds), followed by Boston’s Jayson Tatum and Phoenix’s Josh Jackson, tied at 9/1 odds.
Tatum is coming off a great freshman year at Duke in which he averaged 16.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. With a great footwork and a polished offensive game, he is coming to the Celtics looking to make an impact. The only hindrance towards his Rookie of the Year campaign will be the fact that the Celtics are already a solid team meaning Tatum will likely come off the bench and not receive the same type of minutes as his competition.
