Consider Jalen Rose sold on the Celtics.
A former NBA star and member of Michigan’s fabled Fab Five, Rose appeared on ESPN’s Get Up! on Tuesday morning and said that not only are the Celtics headed to the NBA Finals, they have the best overall roster in the league.
“The Celtics are clearly the best team in the Eastern Conference,” Rose said, before detailing what gives them an edge on fellow contenders in Toronto and Philadelphia, including the returns of Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward.
“For a team that continues to have Danny Ainge fleece the rest of the league as it relates to making these deals happen — all of a sudden, you get No. 3 picks back to back in Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, usually they have to be the face of the franchise,” he said. “We never give Al Horford the credit he deserves as a modern big. And now you bring these two gentlemen back as your starting backcourt, Terry Rozier made a name for himself, oh, and they re-signed Marcus Smart this offseason. So they’re loaded and I anticipate they’re going to be in the NBA Finals.”
Rose went on to say that Irving belongs in the MVP conversation, that Horford is underrated, and that head coach Brad Stevens is adept at getting the most out of guys like Marcus Morris, too.
“The Boston Celtics, top to bottom, have the best roster in the game,” Rose said.
