Isaiah Thomas, Rudy Gobert, Hassan Whiteside engage in war of emoji over Gordon Hayward
Will the Gordon Hayward sweepstakes be decided by an emoji war?
That question remains unanswered at this moment, as Hayward still has some visits to go through, with a Sunday meeting in Boston and then a trip back to Utah after that, but Jazz center Rudy Gobert and Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas are doing their part.
With Hayward concluding his meeting with the Heat, Gobert decided to let the world what he thought about the 27-year-old Hayward’s options.
For emoji beginners, to him, the Jazz are a championship team with Hayward. (Maybe he’s closer to being right than wrong, even in a loaded Western Conference, with the Jazz acquiring Ricky Rubio and re-signing Joe Ingles.) And to Gobert, who averaged a double-double en route to the first All-NBA Defensive First Team honor of his career, the Heat are an empty trash barrel, while the Celtics are some smiling droppings.
The latter point wasn’t going to sit well with some Celtics.
And Thomas, no stranger to emoji use himself, responded just 83 minutes later.
This one is easy to define: The Heat have three NBA titles, the Celtics have 17 NBA titles, and the Jazz are just a female waving her arms in a ‘no’ motion. Again, these are just facts, as the Jazz remain without an NBA title in their 43-year history.
Miami center Hassan Whiteside joined the fun just before the stroke of midnight, noting the championships won by the Heat since the start of the 21st century.
Who knows if this has absolutely any bearing on the negotiations between Hayward’s camp and these three teams? (It absolutely won’t, so long as Hayward’s not a child.)
But only in the NBA in 2017 could this be a thing.
