Isaiah Thomas expects 'good' reaction from TD Garden crowd

There’s no doubt that things between Isaiah Thomas and the Celtics are complicated.

Now on enemy lines as a member of the Cavaliers, and with a disdain for Celtics president Danny Ainge for trading him out of Boston this past summer most definitely there, Thomas has been put in the unique spot of trying to dismantle the team and city he once gave it all for in pursuit of an NBA title.

But the 5-foot-9 guard’s inspirational and downright electrifying play during his two and a half years in Boston is most definitely worth an ovation or two come next Wednesday.

“It better be good,” Thomas said on Friday. “It will be good.”

The biggest obstacle standing in IT’s way, however, is the fact that he has yet to take the court for a single game with the Cavs this season. He has yet to even take part of a real series of practices with LeBron James and company, for that matter.

“I would like to play, but I don’t know,” Thomas, who will not play in Saturday’s game against the Jazz, and with just one more game separating him from his Boston return after tonight, admitted. “I would love to play back in Boston.

“That would be a pretty fun game to play in. I do want to [play], but we’re just making sure we’re prepared for how my body would play the next day.”

Thomas was then asked if he would like to play in that game, even if it’s with a minutes restriction of sorts, given what it would mean to return for that game.

“What do you think?” Thomas responded with a grin.

“If I’m able to play, it’s going to be a really special game for me,” Thomas continued. “It’s gonna be probably emotional because I gave my heart to that city and they showed genuine love back, and that’s how we feel about each other.

“If I am able to play that game, it’ll be a good one.”
