Add a pretty compelling voice to the list of people who don’t think Gordon Hayward will return to the Celtics this year — Gordon Hayward’s dad.
Speaking to Eric Woodyard of the Deseret News after organizing a pickup basketball game at the Pacers’ Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Gordon Hayward Sr. tossed cold water on the idea that his son could play again this season, just months after suffering a gruesome ankle injury five minutes into his Celtics debut.
“He’s working his tail off and if he could play that would be great, but I don’t think that’s really possible,” Gordon Sr. told the paper after playing pickup in a Jazz practice jersey. “He’s not even running or jumping yet.”
Celtics coach Brad Stevens and boss Danny Ainge have been consistent in their proclamations that Hayward won’t return this year. Consider his dad’s words just more evidence pointing in that direction.
