Chaos surrounds Gordon Hayward’s decision
Everything and nothing is happening all at once in regards to star free agent Gordon Hayward.
With the Fourth of July always designated as the potential day for the 27-year-old Hayward to make his decision, Celtics fans lit off some celebratory fireworks when ESPN’s Chris Haynes reported that Hayward had agreed to a deal with the C’s.
That reported by refuted just 17 minutes later, as Hayward’s agent told Haynes’ ESPN colleague, Adrian Wojnarowski, the complete opposite. “Gordon hasn’t made a decision yet,” Hayward’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, told him. “We are still working through it.”
Down to the C’s, Heat, and Jazz, Bartelstein then told the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach that there’s not a set decision that needs to be made today.
“That was the goal, but now we’ve got to kind of regroup here a bit,” Bartelstein said.
Bartelstein continued his Boston media tour and told CSNNE’s A. Sherrod Blakely that he was “upset someone would report that. [Hayward]’s trying to re-evaluate everything.”
There’s also been conflicting reports as to which teams remain in and which teams are out, but with Hayward’s camp failing to let anybody know anything just yet according to his agent and other reports, Jazz president Steve Starks took to Twitter to slam that.
“We trust Gordon and his agent that no decision has been made,” Starks tweeted. “Good communication all day and a great relationship.”
Meanwhile, TNT’s David Aldridge has said that the Celtic haven’t even heard from Hayward just yet.
The Salt Lake Tribune’s Tony Jones has said that Hayward has ‘changed his mind four times in the last four days’ according to a league source.
