Celtics will retire Paul Pierce’s number Feb. 11 vs. Cavaliers
Cavaliers star LeBron James will see Paul Pierce square up in front of him one last time, as the Celtics have announced that Pierce’s No. 34 will be raised to the rafters before a game against the Cavaliers on Feb. 11, 2018 at TD Garden.

The call to retire Pierce’s number in front of James and the Cavs only makes sense, as his Celtics went against James on four different occasions in postseason play, beating James both times the Celtics went against the Cavaliers, and then dropping two straight series to the Heat in 2011 and 2012, which effectively ended Boston’s Big Three.
One of three players to have played over 40,000 minutes in a Celtics uniform, Pierce ranks No. 1 on the club’s all-time three-pointers made list, and is second in points.
Pierce’s No. 34 will be the 22nd number retired in Celtics history, and the first since the club retired Cedric Maxwell’s No. 31 in Dec. 2003.
