Celtics officially sign Jayson Tatum, Ante Zizic
In line with how he’s operated while building his treasure chest of assets, Celtics president Danny Ainge has immediately turned his eyes to the future as his present plans of a superteam have seemingly collapsed in front of him, officially signing high-profile prospects Jayson Tatum and Ante Zizic to NBA contracts today.
The #Celtics have signed 2017 first round draft pick Jayson Tatum and 2016 first round draft pick Ante Zizic
— Boston Celtics (@celtics) July 1, 2017
The 19-year-old Tatum, drafted with the No. 3 overall pick at the 2017 NBA Draft, averaged 16.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and over 33.3 minutes in 29 games for Duke this past season. Tatum also set a single-season record at Duke with six games of at least 10 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks.
The 7-foot Zizic, who was selected with the 23rd overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, competed internationally with Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul (Turkey) and KK Cibona Zagreb (Croatia) last season. His year came with five different competitions, too, as the Croatian Zizic played 65 games between the Euroleague, Basketball Champions League, Adriatic League, the Turkish BSL and the Croatian A-1 league.
But Zizic was certainly at his best in the Adriatic League for KK Cibona.
It was with KK Cibona that Zizic averaged 20.0 points and 9.2 rebounds, along with 1.23 blocked shots per contest. He was named as the 2015-16 Adriatic League Top Prospect which is given to the league’s best young player, aged 22 or under. Previous winners of this award include current NBA players Nikola Jokic and Dario Saric.
