Celtics expected to waive Tyler Zeller
The Celtics are expected to waive center Tyler Zeller, due $8 million next season, by tomorrow’s deadline, according to the Boston Herald’s Mark Murphy.
Kept on the roster as a potential trade chip in terms of matching salaries on a high-priced return (such as Paul George, Jimmy Butler, Anthony Davis), Zeller averaged 3.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per night in 51 games for the Celtics last season.
Originally acquired in a three-team trade with the Nets and Cavaliers, the 27-year-old Zeller has spent the last three seasons with the Celtics, and had a career-year for the C’s back in 2014-15, averaging career-best marks in points (10.2), rebounds (5.7), and field goal percentage (54.9 percent) in 82 games.
