As the Kyrie Irving Era in Boston came to a close, it was reported he had issues with Celtics coach Brad Stevens. Though, it appeared the superstar guard had issues with several others by the end.
Either way, Stevens spoke about Irving with reporters before the Celtics’ NBA Summer League game against the Nuggets started on Tuesday. He had nothing negative to say.
“I enjoyed Kyrie,” Stevens said. “I like Kyrie and I wish him nothing but health and success.
“I don’t fault him one bit for choosing to follow whatever he wants to do. That’s his right.”
Stevens also mentioned he and Irving didn’t speak much after 2018-19.
“Not a ton,” he said. “Not a ton after the season.”
Additionally, Stevens was asked about the direction of the team’s culture. According to Jay King of The Athletic, Boston’s head coach expressed all the players from the 2018-19 team were good guys, they simply weren’t a fit.
“I don’t have anything bad to say about anybody,” Stevens said.
