Boston Celtics' hires of Kara Lawson, Joe Mazzulla, Brandon Bailey become official

After it was reported Friday that the Celtics would hire three assistant coaches, including Kara Lawson, the news became official Wednesday.

The Boston Celtics announced that Lawson is officially the first female assistant coach in 73 years of franchise history. She will join Becky Hammon of the Spurs and Lindsey Gottlieb of the Cavaliers as the only current female full-time NBA assistant coaches, according to NBA.com

As a player, Lawson had an impressive 12-season career in the WNBA, where she was named an All Star in 2007, and also won gold at the 2008 Olympic Games.

In addition to Lawson, the Celtics have also added Joe Mazzulla and Brandon Bailey. Previously, Bailey was the coach of the Maine Red Claws for the last two years, while Mazzulla was the head coach at Fairmont State.
