It’s still unclear who the mystery team is that’s reportedly pulling Al Horford away from the Celtics. The Mavericks were thought to be the favorite at one point. But when the report of a four-year, $112 million deal surfaced, Dallas made it clear they wouldn’t be the one to make that type of an offer to Horford.
Maybe it’ll be Philadelphia. Because according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Sixers have “some level of interest,” in Horford, along with Bucks guard Malcolm Brogdon and Raptors wing Danny Green.
It seems Philly’s goal is to keep their core of Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, Jimmy Butler, and Tobias Harris together. But Harris is an unrestricted free agent, along with JJ Redick, so he could leave. And Butler declined his 2019-20 option. As much as Pompey’s report indicated Butler will sign back, Celtics fans know anything can happen once a player opts out of a contract
Between players potentially leaving and the Sixers still looking like somewhat of a contender in the East, they could be a fit for Horford.
