Scouting Report: Bridges is the exact type of player teams are looking for in the NBA’s new position-less trend. He’s most likely the draft’s top athlete, and with an NBA-level frame to go along with it, plenty of teams will be interested in the 20-year-old.
Perhaps what might be the most intriguing for NBA teams is the possibility that Bridges can play multiple positions in various lineups. He’s a very versatile player that can defend positions two through four; he has the quickness to keep up with guards but has the bulk at 230 pounds to defend forwards down low. Bridges led the Spartans this year with 17.1 points per game while shooting an impressive 36-percent from three.
There are some concerns about Bridges ability to create for himself as the primary ball handler, meaning he would be more of catch-and-drive/shoot type of player. Whether he can develop a mid-range jumper is still a big question.
While Bridges has a big frame, his wingspan measures in at just 6-foot-9, which may hinder his ability to both defend bigger players and get off jump shots of taller defenders.
Notes: The Celtics at pick No. 27 will not have a shot at Bridges, who is expected to go in the mid to late lottery. There have been reports recently that the C’s are aggressively trying to enter the top 10. If so, Bridges could be an option, but the Celtics would likely go with a center if they were so inclined to trade up.
